The species, also known as the Grand Cayman iguana, is endemic to the Cayman Islands in the Caribbean and is listed as 'Endangered' on the IUCN Red List. It is estimated there are only approximately 750 individuals left in the wild with the main causes of disappearance being human induced factors including habitat destruction from agriculture and urban development.
