Chongqing is a city of over 3,000,000 people, famed for being the capital of China between 1938 and 1946 during World War II. It is situated on the banks of the Yangtze river, China’s longest river and the third longest in the world. Originating in Tibet, the river flows for 3,964 miles (6,380km) through central China into the East China Sea at Shanghai. 2008
